William W. Dipman

William W Dipman, 91, died on Saturday, October 20th in Savannah.
Born in Bloomfield, New Jersey on June 25, 1921, Bill Dipman was the son of the late Carl William Dipman and Sarah Jones. After high school graduation in Montclair, NJ, he began college at Oberlin College in 1939 and was a 1947 graduate with a major in history. While at Oberlin, where he played collegiate football, basketball, and baseball, World War II began and Bill enlisted in the Army infantry for 3 ½ years. While in the Army, Bill attained the rank of Captain and was awarded the Bronze Star. After the war, Bill finished college at Oberlin, and served as Captain of the football and baseball teams.
Upon graduating from Oberlin, Bill married the late Mary Farquhar Dipman, also from Oberlin, in August of 1947.
Bill's first job as Sales Trainee with Union Bag Corp. proved successful, as Bill advanced through the company and worked as General Sales Manager with the unbleached division of Union Camp, as well as and Director of Export. While at Union Camp, Bill and Mary lived in Chatham, NJ, for 28 years, and had two children, Kathy and Carl.
Bill retired from Union Camp in 1981, and then moved to the Landings of Skidaway Island in Savannah. He loved gardening and golf, and later gave love to his grandkids. Bill remained very active in Savannah as a volunteer with many local organizations including the Bethesda Boys Home and the Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church. Bill's attitude about life that he lived was "do the best you can, be a good Christian, and be honest".
Mr. Dipman is survived by his daughter, Katherine D. Fullerton of Savannah; son, Carl W. Dipman and wife Brenda of Blacklick, OH; two granddaughters, Chelsea and Aubree Dipman; brother in law and friend, William K. Farquhar of Oberlin, OH and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service will 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church with a reception following at the church.
